Title: ASIAN BEACON SHINES ON
Date: 24-Dec-2002
Description: The STAR - Dec 24th 2002

By Elizabeth Chong

Having a song written and performed especially for you and 420 guest turning up for an event in your honor is not a bad way to turn 34. In this case, however, it wasn't the birthday of anyone but that of a Christian family magazine, Asian Beacon, published six times a year by Persaudaraan Asian Beacon.

To commemorate its anniversary and in keeping with technological advancement, Asian Beacon recently launched its own website at a thanksgiving dinner held at Eastin Hotel in Petaling Jaya.

The evening started with spirited singing by all present, led by the six member St Andrew's unplugged. As dinner was served, the guest were treated to performances by local song writer/producer Ng Wah Lok and Penang based youth group Sand.

In his keynote address, NECF secretary-general Rev Wong Kim Kong reminded those behind the magazine that their labour was not wasted despite having to face some difficult moments over the years. Urging them to move on and embrace the next level which he said was an "enlargement" of Asian Beacon's mission in the literature ministry, he said it was timely that the magazine was now going to launch its website,
www.asianbeacon.org.

Ng, who is a pastor and principal of Tung Ling Seminary, sang four songs including a local favourite Every Time I Pray, while Sand put up a very energetic performance of four songs from their debut album but the same name. Sand also sang a new song - Shine - that their leader and song writer Lucy L wrote for Asian Beacon.

Asian Beacon currently offers free advertising space in its website and provides links to other Christian organizations. Users will be able to view and order past issues, register for a newsletter and subscribe to the magazine.
